| Dear Fathers & Brethren in Christ,
It is with deep regret that I tender my resignation as Bishop Metropolitan in the Old Catholic Church in Europe (OCCE) with immediate effect (13th March 2008).
I am in the process of handing over my responsibilities to the new Bishop Metropolitan, The Rt. Revd. Dennis Beevers OSP. This decision has not been taken lightly but only after considerable prayer and sleepless nights.
I feel it is now time to move aside and allow the next chapter for OCCE to be led by others. I intend now to retire totally from all church activities and enjoy a long earned rest.
Those of you who were with me from the beginning will recall how OCCE, which started life as the English Catholic Church back in 2000, was started by myself and Bishop Anthony Earl-Williams. Much water has passed under the bridge and my failing health over the past several years has made it difficult for me to devote entirely to OCCE.
I am confident now that a strong and devoted team is in place who can lead OCCE onwards. Can I thank all those who have shown me such loyalty and friendship.
Every Blessing to you all,
+Robert McBride BA (Hons), OSP
Kettering, UK. |

Bishop Dennis Beevers OSP and Bishop Metropolitan Robert McBride OSP spent the weekend with the Saint Francis, Southampton, congregation on Sunday 21st October where Bishop Dennis regularised the Orders of Father Martyn Douglas and Father Terence Merrified during the Mass in front of congregation members.
Both Fathers Martyn and Terence joined the OCCE during the summer following the sad demise of their previous jurisdiction. The Metropolitan Bishop formally welcomed them both when they attended the Consecration of Bishop Dennis, in Barnsley, and it is fitting that they should be the first candidates Ordained by the new Bishop.
|
The Bishops were shown around Southampton, a busy and prosperous city and port on the English South Coast, and entertained to lunch with Father Douglas who is an experienced priest of many years standing. Both Bishops would like to thank the newly Ordained Priests for their kindness and hospitality whilst visiting Southampton.

Bishops Metropolitan Robert McBride OSP, Dennis Beevers OSP and Anthony Earl-Williams OSP made an Episcopal Visit to Cardiff, Wales, from Tuesday 28th to Thursday the 30th of August. During the visit a Mass was celebrated at Worcester Court, Grange Town, by Bishop Anthony and the Homily preached by Bishop Dennis as his first official visit since his Consecration.

The service was also attended by the Priest in Charge, Father Mark Paris, who organised the event. Following the Mass there was time for the Bishops to mingle with the many faithful who support the Mission and work of Fr. Mark. A buffet lunch was also provided and Bishop Robert drew the raffle with many excellent prizes provided by local businesses who are very supportive of the fine work Fr. Mark does within the Grange Town area of Cardiff.

During the three day visit there was time for the Bishops to visit the many attractions in Cardiff including a tour of the Bay and fun fair; Cardiff Roman Catholic Cathedral, with its fine statue of Our Lady of Penrhys much venerated by Bishop Anthony, and of course the famous Castle which was given a Gothic "makeover" by the Earl of Bute in the 19th century. Indeed, the three Bishops were very kindly given a private, guided tour of the castle to view the most excellent Gothic rooms many of which are currently under restoration.

The Bishops would like to extend their grateful thanks to Fr. Mark, John, Helen and all at Worcester Court for helping to make their visit both a memorable and spiritual one. They look forward very much to visiting Cardiff and of course Wales again. |

In an historic move the COUSPP was agreed and formed by Bishops Metropolitan Robert McBride, Thomas Bodkin, Alan Munday and Anthony Earl-Williams following a period of intense negotiations. At a meeting on 31st March in London the bishops agreed to and signed a document called the London Agreement. This agreement of Union provides a formal forum whereby the bishops from several independent churches can come together in the spirit of Christian Brotherhood. The Union draws the Old Catholic Church in Europe; Arch-Confraternity of Our Lady of Victories; and Ecumenical Orthodox Catholic Church closer together.
The London Agreement can be read via the following link: The London Agreement
It is anticipated that closer ties will develop over time. |

The Archdiocesan Chancellor is delighted to announce that our Bishop Metropolitan has signed a Concordat of Intercommunion between the Old Catholic Church in Europe and the Catholic Apostolic National Church of Colombia with His Excellency Archbishop Guillermo Pacheco-Bornacelli of Barranquilla, Colombia, dated February 8th 2007. The Clergy of either Church received official notification today via each respective jurisdiction’s Ad Clerum .
The OCCE received the invitation a week ago from the Colombian Church and the Chancellery Office dealt with the sensitive negotiations, entirely conducted in Spanish thanks to the efforts of Fr Emilio Tundidor.
An English translation of the Concordat is being prepared and will be published here presently. Essentially the Concordat of Intercommunion, an expression of the deepest fraternal charity two Catholic churches can have, means that whilst retaining their independence, either church recognises the other Sacramentally and pledge to assist and support each other in the proclamation of the Gospel.
The Articles of the Concordat allow for the exchange of Seminarians during their formation, provides for the recognition and interchange of Sacred Ministers, joint pastoral care of the Faithful, notification and participation by the Bishops in Consecrations of new Bishops, that the Faithful of either Church may receive the Eucharist and all Sacraments and ministrations should they be visiting the jurisdiction of either Church and of course the mutual development of mission and teaching of the Faith. Most importantly of course, the Concordat states that both Churches will pray for each other and in brotherly love, support, encourage and grow together in the service of Christ.
The CANC Colombia is of course in communion with the CANC USA with whom we have an existing Concordat (reaffirmed last October). Please remember our Colombian brothers and sisters in your prayers who are materially less fortunate than ourselves but who share our Faith and spirit and love of Jesus Christ.

The Service of Dedication of the Oratory and consecration of the Altar at Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Huntingdon, took place on the evening of the Third Sunday in Advent by the Bishop Metropolitan Robert McBride.
The culmination of months of planning and “hard labour” put in by and coordinated by Bro David Bradley, it was a moving service which commenced with the Bishop Metropolitan using his Crozier to knock at the door of the newly built chapel and receiving the keys from a congregation member. Inside the chapel, the Altar was stripped ready for the imposition of Chrism Oil and Incense.
The Rite was witnessed by several members of the Faithful and Clergy, not just locally but from around the country. Mass was offered for the first time on the newly consecrated Altar following the Rite and Canon Lloyd preached on the centrality of the Altar in the Mass and the life of a “pilgrim people”.
On the outside of the newly built chapel is a large tiled image of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour presented to Brother David by Father Emilio Tundidor. The tiles were made and purchased in the famous district of Triana, Seville in Spain where such religious images have been made by hand for hundreds of years.
A rota of regular Masses and other services is being prepared for the Mission which will be attended to by clergy from surrounding areas until Bro David's ordination as a Deacon later this year.

The OCCE has pleasure in announcing its membership of the International Council of Community Churches (ICCC). The ICCC represents a large and growing band of Independent churches world-wide and was founded in 1950. The OCCE, as a full member of ICCC, will also enjoy an affiliation with several other respected church bodies.
The ICCC is a member of the National Council of Churches, the World Council of Churches and the Churches Uniting in Christ (CUIC). Through these conciliar bodies, the Council witnesses and works for Christian unity. ICCC churches and centers are given a national and international voice in bodies which seek to shape the Church and human society.
Bishop Metropolitan Robert is delighted at the move and sees this as a move away from the isolationism, associated with many Old Catholic jurisdictions of the past, to the embracement of fellowship and mutual respect afforded to many mainly mainstream churches the ranks of which we now join. The OCCE fully intends to play an active part within ICCC and holds out the hand of ecclesial friendship to fellow member churches world-wide.

The Bishop Metropolitan, the Most Revd. Robert McBride, and Fr. Emilio Tundidor-Suarez and Fr. Dennis Beevers made a Pilgrimage to the ancient and beautiful city of Seville in Andalusia, Southern Spain (13th to 23rd of October). Their time was spent visiting the many places of worship found all around the city as well as in prayer and contemplation.
Visits included attending Mass at the beautiful and spectacular church, Iglesia de Santa Ana close to the city centre in the district of Triana. Following the service the party was welcomed by the parish priest Fr. Eugenio who took the following photograph. The previous day the clergy witnessed a wedding complete with Flamenco guitars and dancers! A colourful and musical sight! There were also visits to the famous Cathedral one of the largest in the whole of Christendom as well as the Castle with its magnificent gardens.
The Bishop Metropolitan and clergy were privileged to be able to pray in front of the remains of Saint Angela of The Cross (1845 - 1932) at her Convent of the Sisters of the Company of the Cross. Saint Angela founded the Institute of the Sisters of the Company of the Cross devoted to relief of the poor and lived an authentically recluse contemplative life when they were not among the poor. Once they returned to their home, they dedicated themselves to prayer and silence, but were always ready when needed to go out and serve the poor and dying. Mother Angela saw the sisters as "angels", called to help and love the poor and sick in their homes who otherwise would have been abandoned. On leaving the Convent the Archbishop and clergy were given relics of St Angela by one of the Sisters. This was both a moving and prayerful visit.
The party also managed to see the many ruins including the Roman city of Italica in the outskirts of Seville. Their stay was enhanced by the hospitality of the local residents of Seville who are charming and hospitable making the stay all the more enjoyable. Fr. Emilio's family descend from Seville and the clergy were joined during their stay by his devout parents. The Bishop Metropolitan and his party would also like to extend a warm thank you to old family friends Paco and Antonio who acted as guides during the day and were more than generous in helping to cook delicious local dishes.
Further visits are planned to Seville and I would recommend Seville as a good, safe place to visit which certainly would not break the bank due to the favourable exchange rate between the Pound and Euro! Finally, anyone who tries to say that Christianity is dead clearly hasn't visited Seville!!

An Instrument reaffirming the Intercommunion that has existed since 16th July 2000 was signed between the Bishop Metropolitans of the Old Catholic Church in Europe (OCCE) (formally English Catholic Church (ECC)) and Catholic Apostolic Church in North America (CANC) with effect from Sunday 1st October 2006. CANC was known as the Old Catholic Church in the United States (OCCUS) until it joined the ICAN Communion in August 2005. This document restates the cordial and good relations that have always existed between the two churches and clarifies the position in light of CANC's decision to join with ICAN.
Though the OCCE is in full and active Intercommunion with CANC this does not, currently, extend to ICAN though relations between OCCE and ICAN are cordial and early discussions are taking place through ICAN's North American contact, CANC.
Both Bishop Metropolitan Robert McBride of the OCCE and Archbishop Robert Gubala of CANC welcome the reaffirmation of Intercommunion and will continue to work together. Bishop Metropolitan Robert McBride would like to send special thanks to the Most Revd. Andre' Queen for his assistance during delicate negotiations.
